Resident Visa (PRV/VOTC)
To enter or re-enter New Zealand as a resident, you must hold either a permanent resident visa, or a resident visa with valid travel conditions. You are exempt from this requirement only if you are travelling on a valid New Zealand passport, a valid Australian passport or hold a current Australian Resident Return Visa.

This checklist has been designed to assist you when lodging your application for a Resident s Visa with Immigration New Zealand in Hong Kong. Please ensure that all relevant documents are in order before submitting your application.
Important Notes
It is important that you provide all the relevant information requested below so we can accept and process your application promptly. If any of the following are not received, the application will be rejected and returned to you unprocessed.
Application Fee
Please see the Immigration New Zealand application fee schedule for the correct fee which must be paid in Hong Kong dollars. Please note that this fee is a processing fee and is NON-REFUNDABLE regardless of the outcome of your visa application.
Acceptable modes of payment include bank drafts issued by Korean Exchange Bank and made out to the “New Zealand Consulate General” or credit card (Visa / MasterCard) payable in Hong Kong dollars. Please note that cash payment is not acceptable.
Application for Permanent Resident Visa or Variation of Travel Condition or Second or subsequent Resident Visa
- Fully complete the Application from a Resident or Former Visa Holder form INZ1175 with two photographs.
- Original passport.
- Either
• Evidence that you meet any of the 5 ways to qualify for a Permanent Resident Visa (PRV); or
• Evidence that you meet any of the 2 ways to qualify for a “12-month” Variation of Travel Conditions (VOTC); or
• Evidence that you meet the special provisions (see below) to qualify for a “24 months” VOTC; or
• Evidence that you meet to qualify for a second or subsequent resident visa
If you are applying for VOTC under any the Special Provisions, the following additional documents are required:
Partners of New Zealand citizens:
- Letter of support from your New Zealander partner; and
- A certified true copy of your marriage certificate / evidences that the applicant has been living with the New Zealand citizen in a genuine and stable relationship for at least one year at the time of application.
New Zealand Residents Seconded Overseas:
- Written confirmation from your New Zealand employer stating the terms and duration of the secondment and confirming that they require you to remain overseas and still consider you a New Zealand resident.
Application for confirming or transferring a residence class visa from an expired / cancelled passport to a new passport
1. New passport and previous passport where a valid returning resident’s visa or resident visa is endorsed.
2. Complete the “Application for Transfer or Confirmation of a Visa” (INZ1023) form.
3. Transfer of visa application fee and for return of original passport/ document, please include a courier fee of HK$100.

Processing Time
Provided all documents are submitted, normal processing time may take 2 to 4 weeks or more while transfer of a visa applications maygenerally take between 5 to 10 working days.
