6th round of FTA negotiations held

South Korea and New Zealand have held the 6th round of negotiations toward a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA).

The 6th round took place at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul from 26-28 March 2014.

During the round, good progress was made in agreeing text in chapters such as services, investment, customs procedures, rules of origin, and institutional provisions.  In contrast, slow progress was made on goods market access, cooperation, and temporary entry.

The next round has been tentatively scheduled to take place at the end of April.  In the meantime, technical experts from both sides will continue to progress the negotiations across various areas of the text through various channels.

New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) Divisional Manager Martin Harvey led officials from MFAT and the New Zealand Customs Service at the 6th round of negotiations.

The Korean delegation was led by Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) Director-General Lee Seong-ho and included officials from that ministry as well as the Ministry of Strategy & Finance, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health & Welfare, Korean Customs Service, Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs; Korea Forest Service, Ministry of Science, ICT, & Future Planning, and Ministry of Oceans & Fisheries.
