Ambassador congratulates Special Olympics New Zealand’s World Winter Games team

Ambassador Patrick Rata met the New Zealand team at the opening ceremony in PyeongChang.

Ambassador Patrick Rata has sent the following message to congratulate the New Zealand team on their performance at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games in PyeongChang.

Dear Brian

I am writing to congratulate you and the New Zealand team on your wonderful performance at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games in PyeongChang.  My Embassy colleagues and I were truly proud of your participation and achievements in Korea.

I was pleased to meet and spend time with you on the evening of the Opening Ceremony.  And I was especially delighted to see the team perform your rugby scrum and haka during the athletes’ march.  Those magnificent aspects of New Zealand culture were picked up in Korean media the following day.

We have shared stories of your participation and performance at the special global event through the Embassy website and our Facebook page.  I have no doubt our readers have enjoyed it.

I hope the team enjoyed their time throughout the Games.  Please extend my warm regards to everybody.

Yours sincerely,

Patrick Rata
