Ambassador Rata observed a New Zealand-Korea combined military exercise along with Pohang Mayor Park on 19 June.

On 19 June Ambassador Patrick Rata paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Pohang, Park Seung-ho. They discussed existing and future linkages between New Zealand and Pohang, including through Pohang’s friendly relationship with the city of Auckland.

After the meeting, Ambassador Rata and Mayor Park visited Airwing 6 Base of the ROK Navy and observed the combined military exercise of the Royal New Zealand Airforce (RNZAF) and the ROK Navy which is being run from 17-29 June. The RNZAF’s antisubmarine plane P-3K and transport plane C-13 are participating in the exercise. Ambassador Rata and Mayor Park had a chance to board the New Zealand P-3K flight.

The combined military exercise has been held bi-annually between ROK Navy Airwing 6 and RNZAF 5 Squadron since 1998.
