Joint Economic Consultations held
The 11th Joint Economic Consultations (JEC) between Korea and New Zealand were held in Wellington on 21 March.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs Ahn Chong-ghee led a delegation of eight Korean officials who travelled to New Zealand for the talks. The delegation included representatives from MOFA as was as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Korea Educational Development Institute, and the Defence Acquisition Program Administration.
The New Zealand side was led by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Deputy Secretary Trade and Economic Group David Walker.
During the consultations, New Zealand and Korea reviewed the economic relationship across areas such as the Korea-New Zealand FTA negotiations, science and technology, ICT, education, fisheries, forestry, and agricultural cooperation.
The two sides also discussed multilateral economic cooperation in the WTO, APEC, regional trade agreements such as TPP and RCEP, climate change and G20. New Zealand will attend G20 this year on the invitation of current Chair Australia.
It has been seven years since the two countries held their last JEC, the previous one taking place in 2007.
