New Zealand Embassy Seoul, South Korea
New Zealand and Korean business groups connect
New Zealand International Business Forum (NZIBF) Executive Director Stephen Jacobi visited South Korea on 31 March 2014.
NZIBF represents some of New Zealand’s largest companies and business organisations covering the export, manufacturing and services sectors. NZIBF promotes competitiveness, investment and open markets to ensure New Zealand enterprises are fully integrated and engaged in the global economy and able to generate wealth for all New Zealanders.
The purpose of Mr Jacobi’s visit was to meet with similarly-focused organisations in Korea to discuss the developing trade policy architecture in the Asia-Pacific region and explore possible future connections between NZIBF and its Korean counterparts.
Mr Jacobi brought with him the message that business lobby groups need to be active in talking to government about the trade policy agenda.
Businesses were well positioned to inform governments about the changing nature of business through global supply chains and export-orientated SMEs to ensure that these interests were reflected in the types of provisions included in bilateral and regional FTAs.
While in Seoul, Mr Jacobi spoke at a breakfast event for KiwiChamber members as well as met with representatives of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Korea Federation of SMEs (KBiz), and Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP).
