Korea and New Zealand to co-produce three films
The first feature film is to be made under the New Zealand-Korea Film Co-production Agreement, New Zealand-based Gibson Group and Korean partner Cine 2000 announced in Busan on 9 October.
‘The Graduation’ will commence shooting in around April/May 2013 in New Zealand, as one of three feature films over the next five years, under an MOU between the two companies.
The MOU was signed at the New Zealand Film Reception in Busan on 9 October, hosted by NZTE and Film NZ during this year’s Busan International Film Commission and Industry Exhibition (BIFCOM). The reception marked the 10th year of New Zealand's participation in the BIFCOM, and 2012 as the Korea-New Zealand Year of Friendship, marking fifty years of diplomatic relations. The 200 guests included the Mayor of Auckland and his business delegation, who were visiting their sister city Busan, the New Zealand Ambassador, Vice Mayor of Busan, Chairman of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) and Director of the Busan Film Commission.
At this year’s BIFCOM, 8-11 October, NZTE together with Film NZ successfully showcased New Zealand's film industry capabilities. Film Auckland, Sauce FX and Gibson Group participated at this year's event. It was a great opportunity for New Zealand delegates to cement relationships with Korean and international filmmakers, and highlight our commitment to this market. Many Korean and international film contacts visited the New Zealand stand to learn about New Zealand film industry, and discuss shooting in New Zealand and co-production projects.
