NZTE and Korea’s National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) last week signed a Cooperation Agreement to promote the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry and encourage collaboration between ICT companies from both countries.

Associate Transport Minister Michael Woodhouse has today announced the timetable for the introduction of mandatory electronic stability control (ESC) for cars imported to New Zealand.

Mr Woodhouse has signed a new Land Transport Rule that will phase in mandatory ESC for all new and used light passenger and goods vehicles entering the New Zealand fleet.

“ESC has been described by the New Zealand Automobile Association and many road safety experts as the most significant advance in vehicle safety since the seatbelt,” Mr Woodhouse says.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Amy Adams has announced that the Korea, Australia and New Zealand (KANZ) Technology Summit will take place in Auckland next week.

KANZ is a trilateral Ministerial-led summit involving government, researchers and private sector representatives to discuss digital developments and explore opportunities for collaboration and new business.

Foreign Minister Murray McCully has announced Clare Fearnley as New Zealand’s next Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

“New Zealand and Korea have a wide ranging relationship that encompasses close political ties and a history of shared sacrifice dating back to the Korean War,” Mr McCully says.

“Korea is one of our top five goods trading partners and we are seeking to conclude Free Trade Agreement negotiations in the near future.

South Korea and New Zealand have held the 7th round of negotiations toward a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) in Auckland from 10-13 June 2014.

Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman welcomes two defence arrangements with France and South Korea which were signed at Shangri-La Dialogue.

“It is important to develop our practical co-operation, and to strengthen our relationships with a range of defence partners,” says Dr Coleman.

Dr Coleman and French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian signed a Status of Forces Agreement on defence co-operation. It provides a framework for existing and future defence engagement activities, including exercises and training.

Fourteen New Zealand food and beverage companies joined forces on 20 May to showcase premium New Zealand products to over 250 experts from the Korean food and beverage industry at NZTE’s Food Connection event. Guests included top chefs, menu developers and buyers from major hotels, restaurants and catering companies, retailers/distributors, culinary professors and power bloggers. Many guests came from as far away as Masan and Namhae to sample the Kiwi cuisine.
