Former Auckland Grammar School student Byung-Cheol Cho has been awarded this year’s Prime Minister’s Award for Academic Excellence at the annual NZQA Top Scholar Award ceremony held at Parliament today.

Education Minister Hekia Parata congratulated Byung-Cheol on winning the award, which recognises the success of the New Zealand Scholarship student who showed the highest overall level of academic excellence in 2013.

New Zealand’s service sector ranked amongst the most open in a recent survey of 40 countries conducted by the Organisation of Economic Cooperation Development (OECD) says Trade Minister, Tim Groser, speaking from the OECD's annual Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris.

DPRK Ambassador Ri Jong-ryul (resident in Jakarta) presented his credentials to the Governor General on 1 May.  He had meetings with New Zealand officials subsequently.  Topics discussed included New Zealand concerns on the DPRK's nuclear and missile programmes, international behaviour and human rights record.  There was no substantive change in the bilateral relationship.

New Zealand Korean War veterans presented scholarships to 10 Korean students from Kapyeong-buk Middle School, following a service at the Anzac memorial in Kapyeong on 24 April 2014.

A group of six New Zealand Korean War veterans and supporters visited South Korea over the period 21-26 April, taking part in a Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (MPVA)-sponsored Revisit Programme, together with other Commonwealth veterans.
