New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has given a speech outlining New Zealand’s response to the threat of international terrorism.


Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce and Trade Minister Tim Groser today welcomed the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) decision on the terms for New Zealand’s accession to the WTO Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) in Geneva.

“A positive decision on the terms of New Zealand’s accession has been reached with GPA parties in Geneva overnight (NZ time), following two years of negotiations,” Mr Joyce says.

The 9th round of free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations between Korea and New Zealand was held in Seoul from 15-17 October 2014.

Over the two-and-a-half days, negotiators from both sides reduced the gap on the outstanding issues including rules of origin, goods market access, and cooperation.

New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) Deputy Secretary David Walker led officials from MFAT; the Ministry of Primary Industries; and the New Zealand Customs Service.


New Zealand’s Embassies and High Commissions offshore received more than 50,000 queries during the year to 30 June 2014, up 33 percent on the previous year.


New Zealand has secured a place on the United Nations Security Council for 2015-16.

On 3 September, the 17th Foreign Ministry Consultations between New Zealand and Korea took place in Auckland.

The New Zealand Delegation was led by Deputy Secretary Andrea Smith.  Korea’s delegation was headed by Deputy Minister Lee Kyung-soo. 

During the half day talks, both sides acknowledged the warmth in the relationship and agreed that bilateral, regional and global cooperation between New Zealand and Korea was strong.
