Thirty three New Zealand veterans of the Korean War joined Prime Minister John Key in Korea to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. The veterans’ visited Korea 24-30 July, led by Minister of Veterans Affairs Michael Woodhouse, and joined by Chief of the New Zealand Defence Force Rhys Jones.

Prime Minister John Key announced today that he will travel to South Korea to join New Zealand veterans in commemorations marking the 60th anniversary of the armistice which ended the Korean War. The Minister of Veterans Affairs Michael Woodhouse will also accompany the veterans.

Six Korean secondary and primary school students from Songpa-gu received Christchurch Songpa-gu Sister City Youth Ambassador Scholarships at a ceremony held at the New Zealand Residence on 30 June.

On 19 June Ambassador Patrick Rata paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Pohang, Park Seung-ho. They discussed existing and future linkages between New Zealand and Pohang, including through Pohang’s friendly relationship with the city of Auckland.

On 10 June, Beef + Lamb New Zealand held a Trade Reception at the Ambassador’s Residence. Mr John Hundleby, Market Manager – Korea, invited around 80 key Korean beef and lamb industry contacts, including importers, distributors, hotel chefs, media and influential bloggers. An outdoor BBQ and buffet was provided and included tasty New Zealand beef and lamb dishes, New Zealand wine, beer and juice. A special New Zealand beef dish prepared by the Korean national culinary team was displayed and served.
