New Zealand Embassy Mexico City

ANZAC Day service, 25 April 2010

Ambassador Alec Kilic (Turkey), Ambassador Judith MacGregor (United Kingdom), Ambassador Katrina Cooper (Australia), Ambassador Cecile Hillyer (New Zealand), Father Vincent Schwan

ANZAC Day commemorates the landing on 25 April 1915 of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps - ANZAC - on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey during World War I.  It is a day when Australians and New Zealanders remember those who died and those who served at Gallipoli and in subsequent military campaigns.  The service commemorates their courage, mateship, endurance and sacrifice - the spirit of the ANZAC tradition.

The Mexico City ANZAC Day service was once again a lovely occasion.  It was held in the garden at the Australian Embassy Residence.  About 130 people from the local Australia and New Zealand communities turned up, as well as staff from the New Zealand, Australia, UK, Turkey and India embassies.
