ANZMEX Agriculture Group: "Opportunities and Challenges: Doing business with New Zealand and Australia as Mexico enters the TPP Negotiations".
President-elect of the Consejo Nacional Agropecuario, Lic. Benjamín Grayeb, today gave a presentation to ANZMEX* members and guests on the opportunities to increase trade between Mexico and New Zealand and Australia under the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), which is currently being negotiated between 11 countries.
Lic Grayeb illustrated the complementarities between the markets of Mexico, New Zealand and Australia, noting the current asymmetry in two-way trade between Oceania and Mexico (Mexico’s main exports to New Zealand and Australia are beverages). In the context of Mexico’s increasing dependence on food imports, Lic Grayeb commented that the TPP could enable participants to identify areas where the three countries could work together to meet demands for imported products and to maximise the respective expertise of each country, in particular through increased cooperation in research and development, and technological exchanges.
TPP Negotiating Round 15 will take place in Auckland, New Zealand in early December. For more information on TPP, visit: TPP Talk.
