New Zealand and El Salvador
New Zealand and El Salvador share a positive relationship, with diplomatic relations dating from 2001. In January 2002, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hon Phil Goff, visited San Salvador, the first high level bilateral visit in either direction.
New Zealand exports to El Salvador in 2012 were worth NZ$5.2 million, comprising mainly dairy products. There is a history of links with Massey University in the dairy sector and, more recently, El Salvador has imported live cattle from New Zealand.
