New Zealand Artist Lisa Reihana to take part in Suspended Histories exhibition

The Suspended Histories exhibition at the Van Loon Museum in Amsterdam is based around the Van Loon family’s involvement in Dutch colonisation in Indonesia, focusing on artists from the Asia-Pacific region.  For the exhibition Lisa Reihana has selected her 2012 video installation ‘In Pursuit of Venus’, which depicts 18th-century European explorers’ contacts with the South Pacific.

On the occasion of the opening ceremony of Suspended Histories on October 4, Lisa Reihana will do a performance on a waka which is in the permanent care of the Rijksmuseum Volkenkunde in Leiden. The trained crew from the Njord Rowing Club will paddle the waka together with Lisa on Amsterdam’s canals.  At around 4pm Lisa will board the waka in front of Museum Van Loon.  More information on the exhibition is available on the website of the museum: www.museumvanloon.nl/eng/home
