On the 9th of May each year, a small group of now elderly men gather before a memorial plaque on the waterfront of Wellington, New Zealand’s capital. They are joined there by staff from Russia’s Embassy and senior representatives from New Zealand’s Defence Force.


New Zealand's next Ambassador to the Netherlands will be career diplomat George Troup, Foreign Minister Murray McCully said today.

Mr Troup will also be accredited as New Zealand's Ambassador to Denmark, Finland, and Norway.

"New Zealand has a long-standing and warm relationship with the Netherlands which encompasses a broad range of shared interests and values," Mr McCully said.

"The Netherlands has traditionally been one of our closest partners in Europe, and it is also the third-largest source of foreign investment in New Zealand.


New Zealand's Finance Minister Hon Bill English delivered the Government's 2010 Budget on 20 May.  Full details of the budget are available on the Beehive website.

Welcome to New Zealand.  It gives me great pleasure to be opening this important meeting.

Just a few months ago the Global Research Alliance was an idea with a handful of backers.  Today, as I look around and see 28 member countries represented here in Wellington, it is clear that it is an idea whose time has come.


On 24 March in the Dutch village of Dinterloord the New Zealand Ambassador to the Netherlands, Rachel Fry, delivered a letter of thanks from the New Zealand Prime Minister, Hon John Key, to Mr Johan Verhagen.  The letter recognises the commitment of Mr Verhagen to the memory of New Zealand and other allied airmen who lost their lives in the Netherlands in the Second World War.
