Consul General Visit to Ouvea

Consul General with HOMF recipient Mme Henere at her tourist “gite”.

Consul General Linda Te Puni made an official visit to Ouvea 28-30 June, where she met with representatives of the municipal and provincial administrations, local women’s association, Association for the Safeguard of Biodiversity and former HOMF beneficiaries and Short Term Training Award recipients.

The Consul General also visited Gossanah, the site of the Ouvea cave hostage taking in 1988 where 19 Kanaks and two members of the French security forces were killed. These events triggered the Matignon Agreements.  The Wea family in Gossanah has initiated an exhibition to commemorate 25 years since this catalytic event.
