NZ Asia Institute Conference

On 16 and 17 November the University of Auckland's New Zealand Asia Institute hosted a conference on "New Zealand, Korea and Asia-Pacific: From distance to closeness" to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and the Republic of Korea. Academics from New Zealand, Korea, the US and Australia spent two days discussing the "shrinking distance" between New Zealand and Korea, Koreans in New Zealand, the two Koreas, the economic rise of the Korea and cultural engagement between the two nations. Korean Ambassador Park Yongkyu and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Deputy Secretary Andrea Smith delivered key note addresses.
