New Zealand University seeks to increase ties with PNG

Victoria University of Wellington’s Assistant Vice Chancellor Pasifika, Associate Professor Hon Luamanuvao Winnie Laban, is visiting Papua New Guinea from the 17th to the 24th of March to discuss opportunities for the University to increase its ties with Papua New Guinea.

“I am very excited to be here”, Associate Professor Laban, said.  “We have had many distinguished students from Papua New Guinea study at Victoria University but with the exciting developments here there is scope for a much stronger relationship between the University and Papua New Guinea.”

Associate Professor Laban will meet the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and the Ministers for Higher Education and Public Services.  She will also meet the Governors for Morobe, Eastern Highlands, and Madang Provinces and visit Papua New Guinea Universities.

Associate Professor Laban is a former New Zealand Government Minister for Pacific Island Affairs.  She was New Zealand’s first Pacific Island woman member of Parliament, and first Pacific Island woman Minister of the Crown.
