New Zealand and Australian embassies promote new trade agreement
The New Zealand and Australian ambassadors recently spread the word about the new ASEAN Australia New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA), to business groups in the Visayas and Mindanao.
The two ambassadors spoke at seminars held in the last week of April in the cities of Davao and Cebu.
Each seminar attracted more than 120 business participants. As well as presentations by the two ambassadors, staff of the Department of Trade and Industry talked about the significance of AANZFTA for Philippine businesses, and Bureau of Customs representatives gave practical advice about how to take advantage of the reduced tariffs available under the agreement.
Those reduced tariffs can be easily identified with the New Zealand Government’s ‘tariff finder’, which was demonstrated at the seminars.
An important component of the programmes was testimonials from Philippine businesspeople, talking about the real market openings available to them under the agreement. The Philippine government’s trade promotion official for Australia and New Zealand presented an analysis of the opportunities in this single market.
The information sessions were organised by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, through its advocacy organisation Universal Access to Competitiveness and Trade, in conjunction with regional chambers of commerce. The seminars were also supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Bureau of Customs.
