New Zealand - Philippines Working Holiday Scheme to start
From this month, young Filipinos and New Zealanders will be able to spend a year working, studying and holidaying in each other's country.
A new working holiday scheme will allow 100 Filipinos to holiday and work in New Zealand and 100 New Zealanders to do the same in the Philippines each year.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully says the scheme, open to people aged 18-30 with a tertiary qualification, will further promote the important links between our two countries.
New Zealand Ambassador Reuben Levermore says that he hopes the Scheme will encourage more young Filipinos to travel to New Zealand.
"This scheme will allow more young Filipinos to develop an understanding of New Zealand, which offers world class experiences in tourism and education. The Scheme makes it possible to travel around New Zealand to experience what the country has to offer and work in paid employment at the same time," says Ambassador Levermore.
"The Scheme also provides an excellent opportunity for young New Zealanders to experience the dynamism of the Philippines," says Ambassador Levermore.
"New Zealand has entered into over thirty Working Holiday Schemes with other countries and our experience is that these are an excellent way to encourage closer cultural connections with other countries," says Ambassador Levermore.
Applications for the scheme open 5 February 2014. Further information for Filipino applicants can be found here: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/workingholiday/philippinesworkingholidayscheme.htm
New Zealand applicants should get in touch with the Embassy of the Philippines in Wellington (http://www.philembassy.org.nz/).
