Voting — have your say
The 2010 New Zealand local council and district health board elections will take place from mid-September to 9 October.
Voting is by postal vote. All enrolled voters will be sent an enrolment pack at their registered postal address to check that their details are correct. If you have provided an overseas postal address (such as in the Philippines), you will receive your pack at that address. If you have not received your pack but expect to, please visit the elections website to check your eligibility, to update your details or to enrol online.
Voting papers will be sent to enrolled voters in mid-September. Your voting papers must be returned by post and received by the electoral office in New Zealand by midday on Saturday 9 October 2010.
To help improve voter turnout, there’s a new website to give you all the information you need for voting in the October elections. At www.elections2010.co.nz you can check which council and ward you’re eligible to vote in, and which candidates are standing for council and mayor. The site has candidate profiles and links to their Facebook and Twitter pages. There’s also information on district health boards, trusts and boards that you might be eligible to vote for.
There’s also more information at www.ivotenz.org.nz.
