Closing ceremonies to mark the completion of the “Human Rights Community Development Programme”, a joint project of the Commission on Human Rights Philippines (CHRP) and the New Zealand Commission on Human Rights (NZHRC) were held at the CHRP offices on 21 March. 


Christchurch, New Zealand's second-largest city, was hit by a magnitude 6.3 earthquake on Tuesday 22 February.  The quake caused severe damage and tragic casualties.


Two New Zealand Customs Service officials delivered three days of training for 50 PNP Aviation Security Group officers in Manila in mid-March.

The New Zealand Embassy hosted an ‘Experience New Zealand’ gala evening at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu on 15 February, focusing Cebuanos’ attention on the great events being hosted in New Zealand later this year, including the Rugby World Cup.


Cebuanos will have the opportunity to sample some of the best food and beverage products that New Zealand has to offer next week, and they’ll be prepared by a visiting celebrity chef.


New Zealand has retained its place at the top of the Institute for Economics and Peace’s Global Peace Index for 2010.


As we begin 2011, it’s a good time to reflect on New Zealand’s engagement in this region last year.  New Zealand considers itself to be more and more a part of Asia, and our actions in 2010 really backed that up.
