New Zealand food on show in Manila

The Sofitel Philippine Plaza featured an array of delicious New Zealand cuisine during the first week of February at its Spiral buffet restaurant.

MacroAsia Catering Services production manager, New Zealander Graeme Pullen, partnered with New Zealand embassy chef Edwin Ferrer to design a sumptuous menu for the Sofitel’s patrons.

New Zealand mussels, king salmon and roasted beef rib all featured on the menu, as dida variety of mouth-watering desserts including miniature pavlovas and kiwifruit and citrus cheesecake.

The week-long food festival was opened on Monday 1 February by New Zealand Ambassador Andrew Matheson.

“We’re very pleased to be partnering with the Sofitel to bring the best of New Zealand cuisine to the Philippines”, Ambassador Matheson said.

“We’re bringing a small part of what New Zealand has to offer to the Philippines, but the only way for Filipinos to truly experience New Zealand is to jump on a plane and get there”.

The food festival was part of a week of activities in Manila that encouraged Filipinos to “experience New Zealand”.  Other events included an invitation-only gala night at the Sofitel on Thursday 4 February, a three-day trade fair at the Mall of Asia from 5 to 7 February, and the Philippine New Zealand Business Club’s annual golf tournament at Villamor Golf Club on Friday 5 February.
