New Zealand Embassy Warsaw, Poland

Celebrating 40 years of New Zealand-Polish diplomatic relations

On 1 March, the date on which New Zealand and Poland formally agreed, 40 years ago, to exchange diplomatic representation, Chargé d’affaires Wendy Hinton hosted a celebratory function at the New Zealand Residence.

Among the guests were Mr Ian Hill Divisional Manager, Europe, in the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,  representatives of the Polish government including Mr Tadeusz Szumowski, the Director of the Asia Pacific Department at the Polish MFA, representatives of the Polish Senate and Sejm, former Polish Ambassadors and Consuls-General to New Zealand, members of the Diplomatic Corps and many other friends. During the evening Director Szumowski and Director Hill spoke about the bilateral relationship and exchanged letters from their respective Foreign Ministers. Video footage depicting events in the diplomatic relationship over the years was played and guests were served Polish and New Zealand dishes, including a huge Pavlova cake decorated with the national flags.
