New Zealand Minister for Arts and Culture in Poland

Meeting with the Polish Minister for Culture and National Heritage

On his six-day visit to Poland, Mr. Finlayson visited Kraków where he met with the Mayor of the City, the provincial Governer of Małopolska district and the Board, as well as some members of ANZORA (the Australia, New Zealand and Oceania Research Association).

The next official element in the Minister’s programme included visits to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum and Kraków’ s Alvernia Film Studios.
The following three days of the ministerial visit centred around Warsaw and a series of meetings with the Minister for Culture and National Heritage, the Deputy Prosecutor-General, the Chair of Parliament’s Culture and Media Committee, and the Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Additionally, the Minister visited the Warsaw Rising Museum, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the Royal Baths, the Royal Castle, the Warsaw Philharmonic and, finally, the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes.
Minister Finlayson concluded his visit to Poland by taking part in the promotion of the book “Two Oceans” (a collection of five plays by prominent New Zealand playwrights) held at the TR Theatre in Warsaw.
Mr. Finlayson’s visit to Poland will have helped strengthen relations between New Zealand and Poland and, in this regard, usefully occurred as we approach in March the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and Poland.
