The Polish premiere screening of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" was held on 18th December 2012 in the Cinema City IMAX (Sadyba Best Mall) in Warsaw. On the invitation of Forum Film Poland, the Embassy of New Zealand granted its honorary patronage to the event. The New Zealand delicatessen added interesting touch to the event. Among 2000 invited guests the representatives of media, politics, culture and diplomacy were present. The Embassy of New Zealand was represented by Chargé d’affaires, Lisa Futschek, and diplomatic personnel.

The University of Gdansk, Poland, hosted the 18th conference of the New Zealand Studies Association from 6-8 July 2012. Entitled New Zealand and Europe: Borders, Nations, Identities, the conference attracted nearly thirty academics from universities in New Zealand, Poland, Australia, the UK and others.
