New Zealand Embassy's Head of Mission Fund Supports Women’s Economic Empowerment in Uzbekistan

UN Women in Uzbekistan with the support of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan and the New Zealand Embassy in Moscow have implemented a project to support women’s economic empowerment in the Karakalpakstan region, a region that has been severely affected by the shrinking of the Aral Sea.

This project provided training in business planning and management, and business communication skills to more than 100 rural women. Women that participated in the project were also given access to microloans to help create alternative employment opportunities and the means for them to generate their own income and support their families and the community.
