Holy Qu’ran Translated into the Māori Language
Islam's holy book, the Qu’ran, has been translated into the Māori language by an 81-year-old Pakistani physicist.
"It took six or seven years to learn Maori," translator Shakil Ahmad Monir said yesterday at its launch at the new Baitul Muqeet mosque – New Zealand’s largest, with a capacity of 700 - in Homai, Auckland.
"It was quite hard, but I didn't give up," said Monir.
The ballot for passes for the 100th anniversary commemorations of Anzac Day at Gallipoli, Turkey, in 2015 is now open.
Marking the start of Islam Awareness Week, Ethnic Affairs Minister Judith Collins has today announced plans are underway for an official Muslim forum to be held in November.
