Opening doors to the Gulf Region

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully launched the New Zealand Inc Strategy for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) during a speech to the New Zealand Middle East Business Council in Auckland on Thursday 27 June.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was established in 1981 between Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The six countries are the economic powerhouses of the Middle East with large state resources and particular needs that match New Zealand's comparative strengths. These are states that are looking to work with us on areas such as food security, education and investment.

This five year strategy for growing New Zealand's relationship with the GCC is based on a much closer collaboration between Government agencies and the business community, reinforced by high level political engagement.
