New Zealand Youth Olympic Team Welcome - August 2010

The development of the partnership between Bukit Panjang Government High School (BPGHS) and New Zealand led to the school hosting a very successful welcome event for the New Zealand Team on 13 August.

A big thank you to all who attended the event.

A highlight of the event was the presences of the New Zealand inspired Buzzy Bee float, designed and built by Kent Ridge Hall from the National University of Singapore (NUS). The float was one of six entered into the annual Flag Day Parade held jointly with the ceremony to welcome the YOG Flame to Singapore. The Buzzy Bee float won the NUS Chancellor Shield which will see the Buzzy Bee float represent NUS in the 2011 Chingay Parade.

Those that attended the Welcome Event were entertained by cultural events and a haka and waiata. 

The New Zealand team and pupils’ from BPGHS then participated in a series of games while some of the attendees had a tour of the school. A meal of local food was provided and enjoyed by all. The event ended with some impromptu basketball being played by the New Zealand and Singaporean youth.
