Renewal of New Zealand Passports
The New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs is responsible for issuing and renewing New Zealand passports.
All Passports issued by the Passport Office after November 2005 are machine-readable, biometric (e-passports) with a scanned photo and valid for a maximum period of five years.
Applying for a Replacement Passport
Passports are only issued by the Passport Offices located in Wellington, London and Sydney.
As from 2 November, 2012, adult renewal applications (regular processing only) may be completed online. Go to www.passports.govt.nz and complete the online application. With this process your old passport will automatically be cancelled while the new application is being processed. Alternatively you can complete a paper application and either submit this to the New Zealand High Commission, Singapore or send it direct to Wellington yourself.

Alternatively, application forms are available from the High Commission and can be posted to you. Please email your details to the High Commission: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applying via the High Commission
The High Commission in Singapore can accept passport applications and forward them, via diplomatic mail, to the Passport Office in Wellington for processing. Once the application has been processed in New Zealand, the new passport will be returned to the High Commission via diplomatic mail unless the applicant has requested the passport be returned by international courier.
Diplomatic mail departs Singapore once a week and closes at 1pm on Monday afternoon (or on the previous working day if the Monday is a public holiday). Applications received by the High Commission after Monday 1pm will not leave Singapore until the following week.
Post Administration Fee
For passport applications sent through the High Commission an additional Post Administration Fee of NZ$50 is charged by the Passport Office.
Processing Times and Fees

Times indicated in the application start from the date the correctly completed application form is received in New Zealand. From Singapore an urgent service application takes approximately 7-10 days and a standard service application takes approximately 3-4 weeks.
Fees are paid directly to the Department of Internal Affairs in New Zealand dollars either by credit card, a New Zealand bank cheque, or a money order in New Zealand dollars. Cheques and bank drafts should be made out to the “Department of Internal Affairs".
Returning the Passport to Singapore by International Courier
For regular service applications submitted via the High Commission and all applications sent directly to the passport office by the applicant; the fee for a DHL courier pack from Wellington to Singapore is currently NZ$15.00 and usually takes 2 working days.
Frequent Business Travellers
When a passport application is submitted for processing, your current passport is automatically cancelled. If you wish to continue using your existing passport while your application is being processed you will have to submit a letter requesting this when you send in your application. The High Commission can assist you with this letter. If you choose to maintain possession of your current passport, the delivery address of your new passport must be 'New Zealand High Commission, Singapore. Your new passport will be returned to the High Commission and staff will notify you by email when it is received. You will need to bring your current passport with you when you collect your new passport. The High Commission staff will cancel your current passport before returning it to you along with your new passport.
Getting a Replacement Passport Quickly
The quickest way to get a replacement passport from Singapore is to either apply online (regular service only) or to send your application to Wellington by courier, pay for the urgent (3 day) processing, and elect to have the passport returned to you by courier. In total, including the delivery times, this will take approximately 7-10 working days.
If you urgently need to travel and your current passport is not valid, you may be eligible for an Emergency Travel Document (ETD).
The High Commission is not involved in applications sent directly to New Zealand by the applicant.
