Solomon Islands stars in NZ WWII documentary

Solomon Islands features prominently in a half-hour documentary about New Zealand soldiers in World War II, screened on One Television over the weekend of 6-8 August 2010.
The screening was timed to coincide with Guadalcanal Veterans’ Day, commemorated in Solomon Islands each year on 7 August.
The programme was made earlier this year by New Zealand’s indigenous broadcaster, Maori Television. A film crew travelled to Mono Island and visited sites on Guadalcanal where New Zealanders saw action during the Solomon Islands campaign.

NZ Foreign Minister to visit Solomon Islands with Pacific Mission

New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully will visit Solomon Islands on Monday 30 August as part of the 2010 Pacific Mission.

He will meet with the Prime Minister, Hon Danny Philip, and members of the new Solomon Islands government.

“New Zealand and Solomon Islands have a broad and deep relationship that has developed over many years of close association. It includes development assistance in key areas such as education, seasonal employment, and our ongoing contribution to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI),” Mr McCully said.
