He will meet with the Prime Minister, Hon Danny Philip, and members of the new Solomon Islands government.

“New Zealand and Solomon Islands have a broad and deep relationship that has developed over many years of close association. It includes development assistance in key areas such as education, seasonal employment, and our ongoing contribution to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI),” Mr McCully said.

“I look forward to meeting and working with Prime Minister Philip to further strengthen our relationship.

“New Zealand is committed to supporting sustainable economic development in Solomon Islands”.

Mr McCully will also meet RAMSI personnel, including New Zealand troops and police officers currently serving in Solomon Islands.

The Pacific Mission is an annual visit by New Zealand Ministers to partner countries in the Pacific. The 2010 Pacific Mission will visit Solomon Islands, Kiribati, and Samoa.
