Michael Swain - New Zealand Ambassador to Spain

Michael Swain is a career diplomat who took up his position as New Zealand Ambassador to Spain in March 2013. 

Michael has served most recently as New Zealand Consul-General in Shanghai from 2009 to 2012.  His previous postings include the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing, and the New Zealand High Commission in New Delhi.

In Wellington his recent assignments include management roles in the International Security Division and in the United Nations, Human Rights and Commonwealth Division.  He joined the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1994 from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
