Cricket - New Zealand Ambassador's Cup to become an annual event

The cricket match which was organised by the New Zealand Embassy as its last event on Saturday 7 July produced a day of good cricket and lots of fun.

The two teams, an Australia/New Zealand team and a South Asian team, competed for the New Zealand Ambassador's Cup and individual prizes. The Australian and Pakistani Ambassadors were the respective captains of their teams.

The A/NZ team made 157 all out having batted only 130 of their 135 allotted overs. In response, the South Asian team put on an excellent run chase and was never really under threat. Despite the relative ease of the South Asian victory, the game was very competitive.

New Zealand Ambassador Barbara Bridge presented the Cup to South Asian captain Pakistani Ambassador Nadeem Riyaz to round off the day (pictured). A/NZ captain Australian Ambassador Paul Stephens won Best Batsman, his son Cody Best Fielder, Mehtab Kayan Best Bowler, and Kamran Ali Best All-Rounder, or Man of the Match.

Many thanks go to the Sigtuna Cricket Club and especially President Sarfraz for the invaluable support and help with the organisation of the match.

Competition for the New Zealand Ambassador's Cup will now become an annual event in Stockholm's cricket calendar.
