The New Zealand Government establishes an Earthquake Appeal Fund

The New Zealand Government's Christchurch Earthquake Appeal is a global fundraiser for the recovery effort in the city and the Canterbury region. The Appeal is designed to complement appeals already established, such as the funds organised by the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Canterbury earthquake

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake occurred near the city of Christchurch in Canterbury, New Zealand, on 22 February 2011.
