New Zealand Permanent Mission Geneva, Switzerland
Internships at the Permanent Mission of New Zealand to the United Nations, Geneva
January – August 2014
The Permanent Mission of New Zealand to the United Nations is looking to recruit interns for the period January to August 2014. There are two internships currently available: January – April and April to July (3 months each).
Internships are intended to give participants exposure and experience in the operations of the Mission and the United Nations bodies operating in Geneva. Interns will support the Mission’s staff in their engagement with the United Nations. Interns will need to be capable of quickly developing a sound understanding of New Zealand’s foreign policy positions. Interns will be required to attend and report on various meetings and briefings at the United Nations, and assist as required with research and other duties at the Mission, including administrative support. Strong communication skills and excellent judgement are essential.
Prospective intern’s background and/or field of study should ideally be relevant to the work of the Permanent Mission of New Zealand to the United Nations in Geneva, for example, international relations, international law, politics, economics or development. Graduate students are particularly encouraged to apply.
Internships are unpaid and interns are fully responsible for their own costs (including accommodation and travel expenses). However, a modest stipend is available. Prospective interns should be aware of the high cost of living in Geneva. Current students may be able to offset the costs by applying for internship grants and/or academic credits from their academic institution.
Interns are required to carry comprehensive travel insurance with adequate cover for medical expenses and personal liability for the duration of their assignments. Interns are also required to sign a standard undertaking covering non-government personnel participating in government delegations.
Visas may be required. If so, the Permanent Mission will assist selected interns in the visa application process.
Applicants should complete the application form and include a covering letter setting out their suitability for an internship, accompanied by a CV and academic transcript.
We are currently recruiting for internships for the period January – August 2014. Applications must be received by 8pm on Sunday 22 September and should be sent by email to email@example.com. Please write “Internship” in the subject line.
