Joint Review of the New Zealand - Thailand Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (CEP)
The Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Kittiratt Na-Ranong met with Mr Groser in Honolulu on 12 November 2011 to carry out a general review of the New Zealand-Thailand Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (CEP) which entered into force on 1 July 2005.
Ministers endorsed the findings of a Joint Report which looked at the implementation, operation and impact of the CEP from 2005 to 2010 to assess the extent to which CEP implementation and mechanisms are serving the objectives of the CEP and the extent to which the CEP has facilitated the expansion of trade and investment. The report also considered the need for further implementation or cooperation measures, and/or changes to the CEP to enhance the achievement of objectives.
Joint Review of the New Zealand - Thailand Closer Economic Partnership Agreement Ministers also issued a Joint Ministerial Statement which amongst other things, tasked officials to look at ways to improve the CEP so that it continues to deliver benefits consistent with a modern 21st century trade and economic partnership.
