New Zealand ASEAN Scholar Awards
Education is vital to the New Zealand Aid Programme mission of supporting sustainable development in order to contribute to a more secure, equitable and prosperous world. New Zealand Scholar Awards (NZAS) scholarships are available to citizens from Myanmar, Cambodia and Lao PDR to undertake a postgraduate level study in New Zealand.
Myanmar
New Zealand Embassy offers up to 10 New Zealand Scholars Awards scholarship for Myanmar candidates for full-time postgraduate study at one of ten eligible New Zealand institutions as listed in New Zealand Aid Programme’s website at:

Two scholarships are reserved for officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Priority Sectors
Strong candidates from all areas will be considered. However, candidates with work experience or whose proposed field of study related to the following sectors will be given preference:
- Agriculture: Phytosanitary, agri-business management, sericulture, vegetables production, livestock, bio-security, food sciences, post rice harvest processing.
- Business and Private Sector: Management, leadership, economics, value chain development, trade facilitation, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) development, private sector management
- Disaster risk management: Renewable energy, climate change adaptation, natural resource management
- Sustainable Tourism: ecotourism, tourism management
- Governance and Public Sector: Law, justice, legal and judicial reform, human rights, gender equity, development, public administration, public policy and management.
Priority regions
NZAS awards are open to participants from any province in Myanmar.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be a Myanmar citizen aged not over 40 years old and have been residing in Myanmar for the last two years
- Applicants must obtain an unconditional offer of study from New Zealand institutions
- Applicants must meet the general eligibility criteria of NZAS, as outlined in New Zealand Aid Programme website
Making an application
On obtaining an unconditional offer of place from a New Zealand institution, applicants should then submit the following to the New Zealand Embassy, Bangkok:

Thailand
New Zealand Embassy offers up to four New Zealand Scholar Awards to Thai applicants to complete a Masters of Teaching English as a Second Language (MTESOL) at one of five New Zealand institutions including Auckland University of Technology, University of Auckland, Massey University, Victoria University of Wellington, and University of Waikato.
Eligibility
Applicants must be a Thai citizen aged not over 40 years old and have been residing in Thailand for the last two years. Applicants must obtain an unconditional offer of study from New Zealand institutions. Applicants must also meet the general eligibility criteria of NZAS, as outlined in New Zealand Aid Programme website under the ASEAN Scholarship section.
Making an application
Applicants should apply for MTESOL and obtain an unconditional offer of study from one of the five eligible New Zealand Institutions. In order to apply with the university, please visit the university’s website:

On obtaining an unconditional offer of place from a New Zealand institution, applicants should then submit the following to the Ministry of Education of Thailand.
Two copies of the NZAS scholarship application form along with required documents. Applicants are also requested to send an electronic copy of the application pack to the New Zealand Embassy Bangkok.

The Ministry of Education of Thailand will recommend shortlisted candidates to the New Zealand Embassy, Bangkok. Successful candidates will be contacted by the New Zealand Embassy.
