Thailand reduces validity period for visitor visas obtained at Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Burma (Myanmar) land borders
The visa validity period for overseas visitors - including New Zealanders - who enter Thailand across a land border from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Burma (Myanmar) has been reduced to 15 days (from 30 days).
New Zealanders arriving in Thailand via one of these land borders are advised to check the time period their visa will be valid for on arrival.
For more information about visitor visa changes see the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Kingdom of Thailand.
New Zealanders who remain in Thailand longer than the validity of their visa will attract an overstayer fine (500 Baht for each day - about NZ$25) and will not be permitted to depart the country until the fine has been paid.
If New Zealand tourists wish to remain longer, a visa extension must be sought from the Thai Immigration Department before the current visa lapses.
