Invitation for Application Tonga Tourism Growth Fund (TGF)

The Tonga Tourism Growth Fund (TGF) is part of the New Zealand funded Tonga Tourism Support Programme to be delivered in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism. This is a three year programme to significantly increase the tourism sector’s contribution to Tonga’s economic growth.

Purpose

The TGF is one initiative to support the development of tourism at the local and provincial level, particularly in the outer islands of Vava’u, Ha’apai, ‘Eua, Niua and including Tongatapu. The TGF will provide grants to assist islands Tourism Associations, NGOs and community groups to contribute to implementing identified priorities in the Tonga Tourism Action Plans, and so develop tourism in their respective provinces focussing on :

  • Increasing visitor satisfaction / visitor spend on tourism activities
  • Improving the variety and quality of local tourism products and services
  • Improving or protecting the environment that will directly enhance tourism development in the area

Funding eligibility

The TGF will be available to registered Provincial Tourism Associations and recognised /registered NGOs/ community groups with ability to demonstrate sound governance arrangements and robust financial management system. Applications supported by the relevant Tourism Association in respective areas will be favourably considered.

Funding available / timeline

Maximum funding per project is usually TOP$20,000, but for projects that can demonstrate a significant impact higher amounts up to TOP$50,000 will be considered on a case by case basis.

The funding is for a period of 12 months. The first round of application for 2011 will close on Friday 1st April 2011.
