New Zealand High Commission Nuku'alofa, Tonga


Tropical Cyclone Ian has passed through Tonga causing damage to parts of the country. There are reports that the northern islands of the Ha’apai island group have been badly affected. 


On 24 October 2013, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, the Hon Samiu Vaipulu, and the New Zealand High Commissioner, Mark Talbot, announced a new maritime safety partnership.


New Zealand High Commissioner, Mark Talbot, today presented funding to the ‘Ahopanilolo Technical Institute to buy furnishings for two classrooms, including the renovation of a simulation housekeeping class.


New Zealand and Tonga celebrated their continued partnership in education on July 24, 2013.


New Zealand will provide assistance to the Vava’u Side School to furnish 3 new classrooms. New Zealand High Commissioner, Mark Talbot, today presented funding towards four tables, chairs and a cupboard for three classrooms.


The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, Lord Tu’ivakano and the New Zealand Minister of Defence, Dr Jonathan Coleman signed a treaty-level agreement today that will build the relationship between the Tonga Defence Services (TDS) and the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

Maamaloa Kindergarten will receive assistance for a fence thanks to the New Zealand High Commission.


High Commissioner Dr Jonathan Austin visited GPS Matamaka in Vava’u on 21 June to handover TOP$11,246.99 worth of solar power equipment. The primary school now has solar power for lighting, computers and a photocopier.
