Over the weekend a New Zealand team visited ‘Eua to tend to ‘Soldier’s Grave’, a local heritage site. Ahead of ANZAC day on Wednesday 25 April, which remembers fallen New Zealand and Australian soldiers, the team cleared the bush and cleaned the grave.


ANZAC day 2012 will be observed on Wednesday 25 April recalling and commemorating servicemen and women from Australia, New Zealand and Tonga who fought and died in the interests of world peace.


Prime Minister John Key has announced that a high-level delegation led by the Governor-General will travel to Tonga for the state funeral of His Majesty King George Tupou V on Tuesday.


In memory of His Majesty King George Tupou V of Tonga, two condolence books have been made available for members of the public to sign in either Auckland or Wellington.


New Zealand Prime Minister John Key says his thoughts are with the people of Tonga following the news that King Tupou V died in Hong Kong last night.


330 Tongans have been granted scholarships by New Zealand for study at approved tertiary institutions in Tonga.


The New Zealand High Commissioner HE Dr Jonathan Austin today presented two cheques, each for the amount of TOP$3215, for the installation of 10,000 Ltr tanks in Fua’amotu and the Fe’ofo’ofani Hall at the Ma’ufanga Parish of the Roman Catholic Church.

All New Zealand funds provided to Tonga's Constitutional and Electoral Reform programme have been accounted for.

An independent audit late last year found no evidence of fraud in the programme but identified poor record-keeping leading to some money being inadvertently used for other Government purposes. The balance of New Zealand funds were returned to New Zealand on 18 January.


‘Eua Island’s Kaufana airport runway and terminal was opened today by the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Samiu Vaipulu and His Excellency Dr Jonathan Austin. The New Zealand Government provided $3.2 million (TOP$4.2 million) of assistance for the upgrade of the ‘Eua airport, which was completed in a record 57 days.
