Visa requirements for Turkey
New Zealand citizens who intend to travel to Turkey for tourism-related reasons for up to 90 days do not require a visa in advance of travel to Turkey. Provided they can show sufficient funds to support themselves and onward travel bookings, they are usually granted entry to Turkey for a period of 90 days.
On the 2 January 2012 the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised of the implementation of the 90 in 180 day rule regarding foreigners entering Turkey on a visitor visa.
As of 01 February 2012 the in-country period for foreigners entering Turkey on a visitor visa is not to exceed a total of 90 days within a 180 day period.
If the period of visa exemption or period of stay stated in the visa is less than 90 days, upon application it may be extended within Turkey to a total of 90 days.
New Zealanders in Turkey with a 90 day tourist visa who wish to stay longer in Turkey should apply to the provincial governors office for up to an additional six month touristic residence permit.
This applies for all foreigners who have entered Turkey as a tourist, either with a visa obtained from Turkish foreign representations, at the border or for those entering under the visa exemption rule.
New Zealanders travelling to Turkey to work or study in Turkey, should contact the nearest Turkish Embassy or Consulate for information about how to apply for approval.
