New Zealand Embassy and Gallipoli Cup photographic competition

New Zealand Embassy and Gallipoli Cup photographic competition

The New Zealand Embassy and the Çanakkale Governorship are jointly sponsoring an annual photographic competition. All secondary school children within the Çanakkale province are eligible to enter.

The theme of the competition is “honour the past with pictures of today”, and focuses on Gallipoli, the battles fought on the peninsula in 1915, and the meaning of this tragedy today.

New Zealand and the Çanakkale Governorship and the people of Çanakkale province have strong and warm relations. Each year thousands of kiwis, young and old, make the pilgrimage to the Gallipoli battlefields to honour those who fought and lost their lives there. They are received in friendship by the people of Çanakkale province. This friendship is a testament to the magnanimous gesture of peace and reconciliation made by the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, to former foes such as New Zealand.
