New Zealand High Commission London, United Kingdom
Death of a New Zealander in the UK or Ireland
If requested, the New Zealand High Commission's Consular staff and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade can assist following the death of a New Zealander in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
The Ministry and the High Commission can help by:
- advising on options available – local burial or cremation (where this is an option), or repatriation of remains or ashes to New Zealand;
- advising on contact details for local funeral directors who can assist with funeral or repatriation arrangements. There are specialist companies in the UK who can arrange transportation of a body or ashes to New Zealand.
- if the deceased is not accompanied by next of kin or a close family member, arrangements can be made for next of kin in New Zealand to be notified by the New Zealand Police.
We recommend contacting the deceased's travel or medical insurance providers as soon as possible to seek their assistance and guidance.
Please see the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's advice regarding the death of New Zealand citizens overseas for further information.
