Friday 10 February 2012 : New Zealand Society Waitangi Day Charity Dinner

This year the New Zealand Society will be hosting the Waitangi Day Charity Dinner at one of the most spectacular Livery Halls in the City of London: Plaisterers' Hall at One London Wall.

Guests at this black tie event will be welcomed with a sparkling New Zealand wine reception, which will be followed by a three-course New Zealand-themed menu. There will be formal welcome and entertainment by the wonderful Ngati Ranana London Maori Club.

The special guest speaker for the Dinner will be the New Zealand award-winning comedian and compere, Jarred Christmas. He has compered large UK festivals, such as Sonisphere and Homelanz in 2011, and is a regular contributor at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival.  His television appearances include creating the BBC show, ‘The Persuasionists’ and making guest appearances on shows such as ‘Mock the Week’, the ‘Children in Need Mastermind Comedy Challenge’ and dressing up like Madonna for ‘Let’s Dance for Comic Relief’.  With his dynamic onstage persona, and robust comedy talent, he will be entertaining guests at the Dinner with his thoughts on Kiwis living abroad.  For more information about Jarred, and video clips, please see his website.

In addition to hosting the New Zealand High Commissioner and other special guests, the winner of the UK New Zealander of the Year Award 2012 will be announced by the European Regional Manager of Air New Zealand. Following the formal dinner, there will be dancing and a cash bar available.

All net proceeds from the Waitangi Day Charity Dinner, as well as the Charity Raffle to be held during the evening, will go to the New Zealand Society's Charity Fund.

The evening will be a formal (and suitably glamorous) affair, with ladies in evening wear and gentlemen in black tie and decorations.

The Waitangi Day Charity Dinner is the most prestigious event in the New Zealand Society's calendar in the UK and the surroundings of Plaisterers' Hall are simply breathtaking, making the evening a truly memorable event.

Numbers are strictly limited for this event, and tickets are available as follows:

Members - £115; Non-Members - £130 and tables of 10 - £1,150.

Tuesday 21 February 2012: Evensong at Westminster Abbey

Prayers will be offered for Christchurch during Evensong at Westminster Abbey on February 21 2012, to mark the one year anniversary of the February 22 earthquake.

The Abbey especially welcomes the High Commissioner and members of the New Zealand community annually each February to mark Waitangi Day. In 2012, the Dean and Chapter of Westminster will also offer prayers for those who lost their lives, and those living with the aftermath of the February 22 Christchurch earthquake.

Evensong on Tuesday February 21 2012 will begin at 5pm and will finish at 5.45pm. Evensong is the evening prayer of the Church: a mixture of prayers, psalms, and bible readings which takes place every evening at the Abbey. The service will be an informal way for members of the New Zealand community, and others affected by the earthquake, to commemorate the one year anniversary of the February 22 Christchurch earthquake.

Access to the Abbey for Evensong is free of charge. All Abbey services are open to members of the public wishing to take part in worship. There will be no preferential access for New Zealanders, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Those wishing to attend are advised to arrive at the Great West Door from 4.30pm. Seats will be allocated on arrival, on a first come basis.

It would be helpful if people intending to attend the Evensong could email evensong@newzealandhc.org.uk in order to provide an idea of numbers likely to be there.
