Wednesday 29 May 2013:  NZ-UK Link Foundation Lecture Series

The second lecture in the 2013 NZ–UK Link Foundation Visiting Professorship Programme by Emeritus Professor Anne Smith from the University of Otago’s College of Education is scheduled for 5.30pm on Wednesday 29 May at the Henriette Raphael Function Room, King’s College London, Guy’s Campus, London SE1 1UL. 

The lecture series focuses on children’s rights with emphasis on the links between research on children’s issues and government policy.
New Zealand was the first English-speaking country to change its law in 2007 to remove the “reasonable force” excuse for parental use of physical punishment. This lecture will outline the role of research and other influences (such as NGOs) on these reforms in New Zealand.

Wednesday 05 June 2013:  NZ-UK Link Foundation Lecture Series

The third lecture in the 2013 NZ–UK Link Foundation Visiting Professorship Programme by Emeritus Professor Anne Smith from the University of Otago’s College of Education is scheduled for 6.00pm on Wednesday 05 June at the Foundling Museum, 40 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AZ.

The lecture series focuses on children’s rights with emphasis on the links between research on children’s issues and government policy.
This lecture looks critically at the policy recommendations for child protection and argues for a greater consideration for children’s participation rights, strengths rather than deficits, awareness of causes (especially poverty), and family support rather than surveillance.

Wednesday 19 June 2013:  NZ-UK Link Foundation Lecture Series

The fourth and final lecture in the 2013 NZ–UK Link Foundation Visiting Professorship Programme by Emeritus Professor Anne Smith from the University of Otago’s College of Education is scheduled for 6.00pm on Wednesday 19 June at Chancellors Hall, School of Advanced Study, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU.

The lecture series focuses on children’s rights with emphasis on the links between research on children’s issues and government policy.
This final lecture asks the question ‘What Kind of Theory and Research is Relevant to the Well-Being and Rights of Children?’

Friday 21-23 June 2013: Kiwi House Returns

The weekend of 21-23 June will see Kiwi House resurrected. The aim is to raise money for the New Zealand Olympic team as it prepares for 2016. A large marquee will be erected in the traditional leafy gardens of Park Crescent, adjacent to Regent’s Park tube station and the three-day programme will include entertainment, wine, BBQ and cater-tainment from DJ BBQ and Matt Black - Kiwi head chef to Jamie Oliver, pies, comedy and music. The daytime events welcome families and the marquee will be open until midnight throughout.
