New Zealand High Commission London, United Kingdom
Westminster Abbey Evensong prayers to remember Christchurch Earthquake
Prayers will be offered for Christchurch during Evensong at Westminster Abbey next year on February 21 2012 to mark the one year anniversary of the February 22 earthquake.
The Abbey especially welcomes the High Commissioner and members of the New Zealand community annually each February to mark Waitangi Day. In 2012, the Dean and Chapter of Westminster will also offer prayers for those who lost their lives, and those living with the aftermath of the February 22 Christchurch earthquake.
Evensong on February 21 2012 (Tuesday) will begin at 5pm and will finish at 5.45pm. Evensong is the evening prayer of the Church: a mixture of prayers, psalms, and bible readings which takes place every evening at the Abbey. The service will be an informal way for members of the New Zealand community, and others affected by the earthquake, to commemorate the one year anniversary of the February 22 earthquake.
Access to the Abbey for Evensong is free of charge. All Abbey services are open to members of the public wishing to take part in worship. There will be no preferential access for New Zealanders, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Those wishing to attend are advised to arrive at the Great West Door from 4.30pm. Seats will be allocated on arrival, on a first come basis.
It would be helpful if people intending to attend the Evensong could email firstname.lastname@example.org in order to provide an idea of numbers likely to be there.
