What the Embassy does
The New Zealand Embassy is charged with carrying out the New Zealand Government’s business with the United States.
The focus of the Embassy’s work is managing New Zealand’s political, economic, trade, security and other relations with the United States.
The Embassy is staffed by a team of officers from the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in Wellington, from the NZ Defence Force, NZ Police (a Liaison Officer), NZ Customs Service, Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment, and Ministry of Education.
In the United States, there are three NZ Consulates General, in Los Angeles, Hawaii and New York. There is a network of 11 Honorary Consuls.
Atlanta (with jurisdiction in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina), Boston, Chicago (covering Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio) and Houston (covering Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana) all report to the Embassy.
Sacramento (with jurisdiction in Central California and Nevada), Salt Lake City (covering Utah, Colorado and Wyoming), San Diego, San Francisco (covering Northern California), and Seattle report to the LA Consulate General.
Tourism New Zealand’s office is in Los Angeles as is New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s regional office. NZTE's Regional Director for the Americas is based in the Los Angeles Consulate-General.
New Zealand Defence Staff
The New Zealand Defence Staff, Washington D.C. represents the interests of the New Zealand Defence Force in the United States. Commodore Fred Keating, Defence and Naval Attaché maintains relations with the US Department of Defence and oversees the Washington procurement office. He is supported in this role by a Military Attaché, an Air Attaché and an Assistant Naval Attaché.

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE)
Trade enquiries should be made to the NZTE offices in the New Zealand Consulates General in Los Angeles and New York or the Embassy. NZTE is the Government agency charged with helping New Zealand businesses achieve success in New Zealand and in the global marketplace. Enquiries are welcome from parties interested in sourcing products and services from New Zealand.
