On 12 January 2009 the United States introduced a new electronic visa waiver system that requires all New Zealanders (and many others) planning to travel to the United States for less than 90 days for business or tourism without a visa to obtain an on-line travel authorisation before they go. With effect from 20 January 2010 it is fully mandatory.

Commissioning of Antarctic wind farm
A new wind farm has been commissioned on Ross Island, Antarctica. The wind farm has been constructed over the last two years through New Zealand and American cooperation and effort and represents a major commitment by New Zealand to the joint United States-New Zealand logistics pool.
