New Zealand High Commissioner to Vanuatu, HE Georgina Roberts, spoke about the New Zealand-Vanuatu relationship during Waitangi Day commemorations on 6 February.



The New Zealand Government is funding the Pacific Aviation Charting And Procedures Project to enhance safety at selected aerodromes in the Pacific including Vanuatu.  Safety is improved through more accurate surveying of runway dimensions, runway coordinates, and checking for obstacles (eg. terrain, structures, and vegetation) that could encroach on the flight paths of aircraft.


The succesful recipients of the New Zealand Government-funded scholarships were farewelled by High Commissioner Georgina Roberts and Minister of Education Bob Loughman at a Pre-Departure event last month.


The Recognised Seasonal Employer: Strengthening Pacific Partnerships (SPP) quarterly update has been released. The SPP, funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, provides technical and capacity building to assist Pacific countries with the RSE scheme. The quarterly update includes an article on Seasonal Solutions and other information relevant to the RSE in Vanuatu.


New Zealand is proud to partner with the African Union Commission to produce the African Union Handbook 2015. In a significant development, this edition has been published in both English and French.


Foreign Minister Murray McCully today welcomed New Zealand taking up its seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

“New Zealand’s term on the Security Council will place us at the heart of international decision-making for the next two years,” Mr McCully says.

“The Security Council is currently considering some of the most pressing issues the international community faces, including; the dire humanitarian situation in Syria, ISIL, and Ebola.

Seven elite rugby players and other sports officials have completed a week-long programme in Vanuatu to promote the message of ending domestic violence.

The players, which included All Blacks 7's and Super 15 rugby representatives, and a national age-group hockey player, joined with the Vanuatu Police Force and New Zealand Police to take this important message around the community from November 9-16.
